The AIKit is, in our view, Razer's most important strategic bet with AVA: it's what turns the cylinder into an open platform rather than a closed gadget. Making it compatible with the OpenAI API is a smart move, because it lets developers reuse the plugin and tooling ecosystem that already exists for ChatGPT without rewriting anything. And local processing —Llama 3 quantized with GGUF and Whisper for voice— is the privacy bet, which also cuts inference costs. Our skepticism centers on a tension Razer will itself have to resolve: if the value is in local processing, what role do the cloud engines (Grok, ChatGPT, Gemini) that the CEO later confirmed on The Verge play? Our take is that they'll coexist —local for what's private and fast, cloud for what's complex— and that the AIKit is aimed more at creators and developers than at the final buyer.
